Providing Information for               Decision Making

Child-Resistant Protocol Testing

In December 1970, the United States Congress passed the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.  This act states that hazardous substances must be specially packaged so that children cannot easily gain access to the contents. Since the passing of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, Great Lakes Marketing has been actively engaged in testing safety packaging.

Great Lakes Marketing has been testing safety packages for over 35 years.

Child Resistant Package Testing.  We test packages with hundreds of children and senior adults each week. We have contracts with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and have been audited by the Canadian Standards Association.

Cigarette and Multi-Purpose Lighter Testing. Great Lakes Marketing has been actively testing CR lighters since the regulations were being developed. In the summer of 1994, the CPSC finalized rules for testing cigarette lighters.  In December 2000, multi-purpose lighters were added. Great lakes Marketing was working with the CPSC from the beginning to refine these rules and has been testing the effectiveness of lighters since this time.

Market Testing. Our expertise with testing child-resistant packages and lighters extends beyond protocol testing.  We have an extensive program of research  to help package manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies measure customer satisfaction, customer experience, ease-of-use, labeling issues and other marketing questions related to the package.
